FaDS - Faculty Development Series @ CGH Anaesthesia

By Dr Daphne Moo, Associate Consultant, Dept of Anaesthesia CGH

For the Department of Anaesthesia at CGH, the tea room brings about a familiar sense of comfort, as well as a limitless source of random information. The Faculty Development Series talk that happens every last Monday of the month was inspired by incessant tea room chatter many years ago and has since then conveyed a lot of practical knowledge that may not have been easily accessible to the busy clinicians in the department.

Over the years, we have covered topics on parenting, feng shui, investing, exotic travelling, photography, Indian cooking and most recently the basics of harmless legal gambling; each time allowing a member of our department the opportunity to share with the rest what he or she does when they are no longer a clinician at work.

When you have been scaling a mountain alone for hours, there is often a tremendous sense of camaraderie when you meet another climber. The department believes that the work place should be an extension of his or her comfort zone at home, and these talks aim to remind us that there is more to life than clinical work. Perhaps, it is also never too late to learn a new skill!

Moving forward, we hope to cover more topics like how to bake a perfect chiffon cake and hacks to braving through this ring of fire known as the primary school leaving examination. We also welcome all suggestions and we look forward to having volunteers from the rotating residents when they are a part of the department!
